Technology Roundtable

A business brief on IPv6 for CEOs, CTOs & CIOs
Jan 22nd, 2003, The Taj Residency, Bangalore

New, changing and emerging technologies present both threats and opportunities to your business.

Internet Protocol Version 6, popularly referred to as IPv6, is a key emerging technology, the implementation of which will have a major impact on your customers and your business.

Does your company understand IPv6, know how to deal with it, and are you ready to implement IPv6? Business leaders such as yourself need to understand the business opportunities and new services offered by IPv6, how these impact will impact your customers and greatly affect your bottom line.

Why should you bother?

Unlike the coming of IPv4, which suddenly appeared out of nowhere and took the business community and the national administration by storm, IPv6 is being introduced in a sane manner. Governments are being sensitized and are now encouraging adoption of this technology. The European Union, the Japanese government, the Korean government and very recently the Chinese government have endorsed this technology and have given guidelines for adoption within their countries. How should we shape such endorsement and adoption in our country?

The current version of Internet Protocol (IP) - IPv4 - is under increasing strain as functional, performance and volume demands increase. In particular, IPv4ís address space is limited and will eventually exhaust. IPv6 offers improvements to IPv4 including a dramatically increased address space. It is the chosen technology for future releases of 3G mobile networks. However the migration from IPv4 to IPv6 will be complex and will require changes to network elements, OSS and applications.

The IPv6 Forum

This is a worldwide consortium of leading Internet vendors, Research & Education Networks, with a clear mission to promote IPv6 by dramatically improving the market and user awareness of IPv6, creating a quality and secure next generation Internet and allowing world-wide equitable access to knowledge and technology, embracing a moral responsibility to the world.

The IPv6 Forumís Indian chapter has undertaken an equally concerted effort to bring about greater awareness of IPv6 and the impact it can have on businesses in India.

It is in this direction that we invite you to join us at the ìIPv6 Business Briefî and lunch thereafter at the Taj Residency Hotel, on the 22nd of January 2003 at 11:00 hrs . Kindly confirm your participation at the earliest.
